Do A Good Deed Content

Dr. Stan Self of Self Center, P.C. in Fairhope announced the winner of his fourth DO A GOOD DEED CONTEST.  The Award Ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 19 at Point Clear’s Marriott Grand Hotel to honor Samantha Marie Cox of Daphne High School.   After introducing Samantha, Dr. Self presented her with a framed Certificate of Achievement, her framed winning essay, and a laptop computer and printer.  Samantha read her essay to a number of community leaders attending the ceremony to include Commissioner David Ed Bishop; Baldwin County Superintendent of Education, Dr. Faron Hollinger; Daphne City Councilman, John Lake; Daphne High School Assistant Principal, Oliver Sinclair; Daphne Middle School Principal, Mr. James “Tripp” Oliphant; Mrs. Barbara Oliphant of Country Day School; Mr. David Clark, General Manager of Marriott’s Grand Hotel in Point Clear; Steve Woolley, Manager of Foley Career Center and wife, Betty; and Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant.  Samantha’s mother, Lucinda Cox, father Jim Cox and sister, Abigail were also in attendance along with several other friends of the family.  Numerous friends of the Self Center were also in attendance for the event.  Samantha has been a leader in several projects she has initiated to help others.  She has also been an exceptional student and is currently in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program at Daphne High School.  She has been involved in doing “good deeds” for a long time and is consistent in her efforts to make a difference for individuals.
 

Dr. Self believes that it is a responsibility of community leaders and businesses to recognize our youth for the positive things they contribute to this community.  In efforts to recognize and reward the good deeds performed by local youth Dr. Self began sponsoring the “Do A GOOD DEED” contest in the summer 2006.  Applicants are instructed to write an essay on a recent good deed they did, why they did it, the principles upon which they based their actions, and the result of their actions.  Landon Sykora of Daphne was honored at the first ceremony in October, 2006 after being identified as Dr. Self’s first “DO A GOOD DEED” winner; Carter O’Neal Bridges of Baldwin County High School won the contest in May, 2007.  Frankie Johnson of Fairhope High School was the third winner in November, 2007.

Dr. Self and the Self Center staff were honored to have been given the opportunity to have the ceremony at the Grand Hotel as General Manager, David Clark, has been a supporter of this DO A GOOD DEED program since it began.  Dr. Self plans to continue his “DO A GOOD DEED” contest and encourages Baldwin County students to age 18 to apply.    All school principals will receive the application information and are encouraged to distribute or post information about the contest when they receive it.  Information will indicate how to enter.  For more information on this program, contact Cindy Phillips at Self Center, P.C. in Fairhope, at
